Zhongshan's consumer price index (CPI) was up 1.6%, according to Zhongshan Investigation Team of National Bureau of Statistics. The amount of increase was lower than that in 2016, but 0.1% higher than the provincial figure.

Food price sees a rare decrease after years of increases, and was 0.3% lower than the beginning of the year. Meat and vegetable prices have fallen significantly. The price of fresh vegetables and pork dropped by 11.1% and 4.0% respectively, which has suppressed the increase of the total index.

Nevertheless, service prices rose 2.9% in 2017, which is an important factor driving up the total index. The price of medical services was up 13.8% in 2017 influenced by the increase of medical treatment and education fees in 2016.

In terms of energy sources, the prices of gasoline, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas rose by 1.9%, 2.1% and 24.1% respectively, which are important factors driving up the CPI.
