This year, Zhongshan plans to launch a new-round of reform for vocational education by implementing six major programs in accordance with the “double-precision” vocational education promotion work deployed by Department of Education of Guangdong Province.

In terms of vocational schools layout, the quantity of secondary vocational schools will be cut from 10 to 6. Each school serves an economic group, which greatly improves the scale benefit of vocational education. Schools will be renamed according to the industries they serve and the school orientation to promote specialized and differential development. For example, Shaxi Polytechnic School and Gangkou Polytechnic School will be merged and renamed “Zhongshan Light Industry School”.

The specialty structure of vocational schools will also be optimized. The schools will adjust major settings, add much-needed majors such as artificial aluminum, intelligent manufacturing, precision manufacturing and equipment manufacturing, upgrade the related majors of traditional industries, and eliminate majors with low relevancy with leading industries.
