Updated: 2018-03-23    Source: Zhongshan Daily Large Medium Small Print

The welcome ceremony of the “Sun Yat-sen lotus” was held in Xiangnongzhou Agricultural Park on March 21. The lotus, grown from the seed Dr Sun Yat-sen gifted to his Japanese friends in 1918, is back to hometown a century later.

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the presentation of the lotus seeds and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the China-Japan Peace and Friendship Treaty, the presenting ceremony of the lotus named after the great man was held in Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Kobe, Japan on March 18. Witnessed by guests, scholars, representatives of overseas Chinese and students in Japan and Japanese citizens, Mr Kaneko, Director and Secretary General of Kyoto Lotus Research Society of Japan, gave the “Sun Yat-sen lotus”, a symbol of China-Japan friendship, to Mr Leland Sun, founder and Chairman of the Sun Yat-sen Center Foundation.

The “Sun Yat-sen lotus” will make debut in Zhongshan at Xiangnongzhou Agricultural Park in June.
