It was the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) on the first day of April. Chairman of Zhongshan Municipal Committee of CPPCC Qiu Shuhong was invited to Beijing to the school's anniversary and witnessed the inauguration of the 28 statues of art masters including Cai Yuanpei, Xu Beihong and two Zhongshan (Xiangshan) art masters Zheng Jin and Gu Yuan.

Reportedly, CAFA was founded in 1918 as “National School of Fine Arts in Beijing”. Its first president was renowned art educator and painter Zheng Jin, who was born in Sanxiang, Zhongshan. Zheng Jin held the post of president for 8 years’ time, the longest among all successive presidents before the school was changed to the current name in 1950.

Gu Yuan, who was honored by Xu Beihong as “Extraordinary Genius in Chinese Art Circles”, was born in Xiangshan (current TangJiaWan Town in Zhuhai). He was one of the printmaking and watercolor painting masters of modern China and outstanding artists and art educators.

During the trip to Beijing, Chairman Qiu Shuhong also visited famous Zhongshan cartoonist Fang Cheng and sent him best regards and blessings on behalf of Zhongshan people.
