Zhongshan Xingzhong Group completed the transfer of two ancient copper cannons, which were excavated in 2010 from the construction site of Central Power Plaza, to Zhongshan Museum on April 16.
One of the cannons was about one meter long, and the other was about two meters in length with rusty metal textures. The smaller cannon weighs more than 100 kilograms, printed with three characters “Zhen Sixth Year” on its body. The bigger one weighs about 200 kilograms with no obvious inscription on it.
According to the staff of Zhongshan Museum, the small cannon was estimatedly cast in the late Ming Dynasty, while the big one is an ancient cannon from Qing Dynasty. The construction site of Central Power Plaza was watercourse in the past, in which case, the two cannons is estimated to be the remains of sunken ships or used for sea defense. Their cultural value remains to be verified.
