The 21st FINA Diving World Cup opened on June 4 at Wuhan Sports Center. Zhongshan female athlete Chen Yiwen, who competed in the diving world cup for the first time, won the mixed 3m&10m team champion with her partner Qiu Bo on the opening day. Chen also became the first “Zhongshan home-grown” diving world champion.
Mixed 3m&10m Team event was added to international diving competition by FINA in 2015. Chen Yiwen and Qiu Bo teamed up playing for China. They previously competed in the The 17th FINA World Championships held in Budapest, Hungary last year and took the 6th place in the same event.
Chen Yiwen, born June 15 of 1999, entered the Zhongshan team in October 2008 and was selected national team in November 2016. She said winning the gold this time was a compensation for last year’s performance in Budapest. Her next priority is to win the national competition later this month in order to obtain entrance ticket of this year’s Jakarta Asian Games.
