In the first half of this year, Zhongshan were among national top10 in air quality for three times, with 89.0% of air compliance rate. However, ozone has become the primary air pollutant of the city, with increasing concentration in recent years.

In order to maintain “Zhongshan blue sky”, the city has been fighting against VOCs (volatile organic compounds) for long time. 

On August 8, during the VOCs and Common Factory Coordination Conference cum Expert Advisory Meeting, Zhongshan Environmental Protection Bureau encouraged towns and industries to regulate volatile organic compounds with “centralized processing” methods.

“At present, four ‘common factories’ are under construction respectively in Dachong, Shaxi, Guzhen and Henglan town”, said Chen Zilin of Zhongshan Environmental Protection Bureau. “ ‘Common factory’ provides new solution to SMEs to solve problems in VOCs regulation.”

Reportedly, “common factory” refers to the factory, with independent legal qualification, providing centralized processing and manufacturing services for certain traditional industries or companies.
