The 1st meeting of Zhongshan Leading Group for “Greater Bay Area” Development was convened on August 21 to deliberate the promotion work Zhongshan had done on the development of “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and deploy the coming work.  

The meeting underlined that Zhongshan should accelerate construction of major traffic projects such as Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge and Shenzhen-Maoming Railway to give play to Zhongshan’s distribution hub functions within the “Greater Bay Area”. Zhongshan should advance innovation on biomedical technologies by maximizing the agglomeration effect of National Health Technology Park, Coastal Medical Equipment Industrial Park, South China Modern TCM City and Zhongshan Sino-Swiss (Euro) Industrial Park, and propose the “Greater Bay Area Medical Center”. Zhongshan should speed up construction of youth innovation platform and Guangdong-Macao Cooperation Demonstration Base in Tsuihang New District. Zhongshan should explore cultural resources relaetd to Sun Yat-sen to build unique advanced productivity and urban competitiveness through creative transformation and innovative development.

The meeting also stressed that Zhongshan should develop complete daily operation mechanism for the Zhongshan Leading Group and found a task force to coordinate works and responsibilities of different departments and township administrations. Zhongshan should actively advance the establishment of the joint conference mechanism and regular mutual-visit mechanism between Zhongshan and Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao respectively for coordination of major platforms, projects and cooperation. Zhongshan should introduce more mechanism innovation pilot programs into the city, perfect policy systems in terms of international shipping, trade and financing to accelerating circulation of population, goods, capital and information. Zhongshan should also formulate “Greater Bay Area construction planning with Zhongshan characteristics” to enhance efficiency of major projects and platforms.
