Zhongshan will up-regulate reimbursement proportion of medical insurance for serious diseases from October 1, according to Zhongshan Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. If the total annual amount of medical insurance paid by individual exceeds 20,000 yuan, medical insurance for serious diseases will cover 60% of the exceeding part, which is only 50% currently.

In addition, Zhongshan will expand the coverage of special diseases. Cerebral palsy, Crohn’s disease, atrial fibrillation and hypoparathyroidism are included in the special disease category, the accumulated outpatient payment limit of which will be 8,000 yuan/year. 

Meanwhile, for the insureds who are hospitalized in designated medical institutions outside of Zhongshan, 70% of their medical fees can be repaid by social medical insurance.
