The amended "Management Methods on Adding Elevator to Old Residential Buildings in Zhongshan" was unveiled on November 23. 

The new methods specify for the first time that the government will provide an 100,000 yuan subsidy for each additionally-installed elevator in old residential building. For low-income families, the government will also fully cover the installation fees they share.

The amended methods also make some other adjustments. For example, the minimum number of storey of the old building eligible for adding elevator has been lowered to 4 from 5.

The amended methods will take effect from December 23, 2018 and will be valid for 5 years. Supporting subsidization policy will be unveiled soon.

Zhongshan Citizens’ demand on adding elevator to old residential building is increasing. According to Zhongshan Urban Planning Bureau, the government has accepted 112 applications of elevator installation as of the end of October this year.
