Sources from the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau told the reporter on 24th of this month that Measures for the Implementation of Compensation for Ecological Environment in Drinking Water Source Protection Areas in Zhongshan City (hereinafter referred to as Measures) was recently officially issued. As per the Measures, the scope of ecological compensation covers all the drinking water source protection areas under category I and II across the city. From 2018 to 2022, the ecological compensation for drinking water source protection areas under category I and II will follow the standard of 500 yuan and 250 yuan per mu for each year respectively.

Currently, the drinking water source protection areas under category I cover 48,922.73 mu (temporary figure) while those under category II covers an area of 181,754.87 mu (temporary figure) across the city. In 2018, the funds allocated for ecological compensation for drinking water source protection areas in the city amounted to 69.89 million yuan. Among them, the funds for ecological compensation for protection areas under category I reached 24.46 million yuan while those under category II stood at 45.4387 million yuan.
