The 2nd technical expert meeting of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel project was held in Shenzhen a few days before. The meeting deliberated and approved the improvement scheme in terms of the overall planning and technological innovation of implementation.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel (Bridge) is a cross-sea cluster project of bridges, islands, tunnels and underwater terminal interchanges. In an effort to tackle key technical problems and improve quality, safety and durability of the project, an expert team formed by national engineering academicians, design masters, former engineers of the Ministry of Transport, and professor-level senior engineers who ever participated in domestic and overseas major bridge, island or tunnel projects proposed an improvement scheme after a series of research and discussion over the planning and technological innovation of implementation of the project.

The improvement scheme will be applied to the project to technically support the construction.

The newly-approved scheme covers innovations in such aspects as equipment manufacturing, materials manufacturing, structure, technique and technology, taking the successful experiences of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge into consideration.

Reportedly, the first pipe section of the steel-shelled immersed tunnel of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel will be cast in April this year. Meanwhile, the world's first immersed tube transportation and installation ship, which is developed by China, will be debugged in October and put into use in late 2019 for the pipe installation.
