As one of the major projects of the Changjian Road Renovation, Sunzhong Tunnel has been under construction for 28 months since October 2016. This tunnel, which is now 90% completed, is expected to be open to traffic in July of this year.

Sunzhong Tunnel is nearly 1,300 meters in length. After its completion, it will become the longest underground tunnel in Zhongshan.

The Changjian Road Renovation Project includes Sunzhong Tunnel and three other tunnel projects. Qiwansha Tunnel was put into use before this year's Spring Festival. The other two, Kanghua Tunnel and Dongxiang Tunnel, are expected to open in September and October of this year, respectively.
