The Zhongshan Traffic Police Department launched the "On-site Production and Installation of Vehicle License Plates" on March 4. The two production sites, located respectively in Daling and Changjiang Exam Venues, started license plate issuance and an installation service which began on Monday. Car owners are now able to receive their Zhongshan license plates in as little as an hour. 

Previously, the traffic police department had to send the information to the provincial license plate center for unified production. This was done after a vehicle owner selected the plate number. The ready-made license plates would be mailed to the owner or the local vehicle administration office for installation. The whole process of number selection, production of the plate, and installation used to take 7 to 10 days. 

In the first half of 2018, the Provincial Traffic Management Bureau launched Zhongshan's pilot license plate production program. The pilot period began last November, during which a total of over 15,200 vehicle license plates were made and issued.

The number of motor vehicles registered in Zhongshan reached 1,429,500 as of February of this year, and its current average growth is 800 per day.
