A 24-hour unmanned self-service rice vending machine recently appeared in the Sunshine Holiday Residential Community in Huangpu Town.

People can purchase two types of rice through the machine after scanning the QR code and completing the payment.

The rice processed and sold by the machine is dim and yellowish in color with rice bran. "It tastes good, but it is a bit expensive," said some early adopters.

Wang Guoqi, operator of the machine, said the vending machine is now under trial run. "We put selected, unprocessed brown rice in the machine, from which customers can purchase the freshest, most nutritious rice."
