In the past few days, Chen Xudong, the Municipal Party Secretary of Zhongshan City, visited the Training Base for National Defense Education in Zhongshan and inspected the national defense education program carried out by Zhongshan for youths from Hong Kong and Macao.
At the base, Chen Xudong inspected the Sports Hall, the Weapon Exhibition Hall, the National Defense Education Exhibition Hall, the "Double Support" Achievements Exhibition Hall, the Celebrity Sculpture Garden, the Training Gym for National Defense Education, and the Corridor for the Popularization of Science among others, and listened to the report about integrating and promoting the "branding and base-oriented" construction for interactions and cooperation among youths from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
Chen Xudong insists that it is necessary to implement the spirit of the Guidelines for the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, foster brand projects and characteristic bases for national defense education of youths from Hong Kong and Macao, encourage interactions among youths from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and support youths from Hong Kong and Macao to blend into the country and contribute to nation building.
The Training Base for National Defense Education in Zhongshan City, situated in the administrative region of Wuguishan as an old liberated area, was founded by the Municipal Party Committee, the Municipal Government, and Zhongshan Military Subarea to nurture the strong reserve force for national defense. It became operational since 1997. As a public welfare institution of national defense education and military training, this base mainly organizes the teaching of certain subjects such as national defense education, militia training, military education and practice for primary and middle school students, emergency evacuation, fire drill and health care.
In recent years, the city has forged the National Defense Education Experience Camp for Youths from Hong Kong and Macao in Zhongshan, with the backing of relevant state departments and the collaboration of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Guangdong Province.
By the end of 2018, more than 200 batches including about 40,000 middle school students from Hong Kong and Macao have been involved in this project. The teachers and students who took part in the activities unanimously believe that they have acquired more knowledge about national defense and emergency rescue and deepened their understanding of the legal culture and educational concepts in Mainland China.
