Recently, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Zhongshan residents rose by 1.2% during the first quarter of 2019. This was 0.6% lower than the national level and 1.0% lower than the provincial level, according to data released by the Zhongshan Investigation Team of the National Bureau of Statistics. The increase rate of the CPI of Zhongshan ranked low among 21 prefecture-level cities in the province.
The service price was the biggest driving force of the CPI increase, rising by 1.6% year-to-year in the first quarter and driving the overall index up by 0.58%.
With the development of the Zhongshan real estate market, the relevant prices increased. The price of housing decor and maintenance increased by 7.5%.
In terms of transportation services, airfare rose by 10.9%, vehicle repair and maintenance prices rose by 6.9%, and parking fees and vehicle use prices increased significantly.
In addition, the price of household services increased by 11.1%. The price of elderly care services rose by 8.7%, and vehicle insurance prices rose by 4.2%.
Food prices remained an important driving force of the CPI rise. Food prices in Zhongshan rose by 1.8% in the first quarter, driving the overall index up by 0.37%. The price of dried and fresh fruits, vegetables, poultry, and confectionery items rose significantly. They were stated to grow 5.6%, 5.3%, 4.4%, and 4.4% respectively.
In the first quarter, the prices of industrial products in Zhongshan rose by 0.9%, and prices of some industrial products have continued to rise.
