Considering cities as different units, the 2018 Character Portrait of Chinese Urban Netizens Report selected 620 million micro-blog texts posted by 9.6734 million netizens in 108 cities across China to illustrate the expression and mentality of urban netizens in terms of topic attention, emotional characteristics, cognitive characteristics and urban network influence.
According to the report, Zhongshan netizens were more rational and friendly in their online personalities, indicating a higher degree of happiness.
The 2018 Character Portrait of Chinese Urban Netizens - "Zhongshan Index" Report was published concertedly by the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory for Public Opinion Big Data Analysis and Simulation, the Big Data Communication Laboratory of School of Communication and Design of Sun Yat-sen University, Zhongshan Association of Cyber Culture, the Chinese Netizen Social Mentality Research Laboratory and the Professional Committee on Big Data Network Psychology.
In 2017, the Zhongshan Association of Cyber Culture and School of Communication and Design of Sun Yat-sen University conducted a nationwide study on the personality of urban netizens, and the research results were published for three consecutive years.
Lin Ruixi, member of the Zhongshan Standing Committee and head of the Publicity Department, attended the press conference. He pointed out that the 2018 Character Portrait of Chinese Urban Netizens - "Zhongshan Index" Report utilized big data to carry out an in-depth analysis of urban netizens' network participation and behavior in ways that provided accurate reference for internet development and social governance.
