At 5:24:50 pm, May 6, Xiong Junwei, Deputy General Manager of the China Mobile Zhongshan Branch, dialed the first 5G-supported call in Zhongshan. During the six-minute, Xiong experienced a smooth video call, marking a significant step of 5G networks and 5G applications in mobile terminals of Zhongshan. The video call was witnessed by more than 400 delegates.
The first 5G video call had a stable connection, good voice and image quality, and almost without lag, which also demonstrated the 5G's peerless advantage in data rate. It is said that the 5G network is 10-20 times faster than the 4G network, even 100 times faster at peak rate.
A wide range of new 5G technologies were displayed, including 16 channel HD synchronous video play, VR observation, 360° hand-held panoramic camera and intelligent robots for real-time control.
"China Mobile Zhongshan Branch is speeding up its efforts to build a 5G network with high precision," said Xiong Junwei. Currently, its 5G base station has already covered major spots and business circles, including the office buildings of the Zhongshan CPC Committee and the People's Government, Lihe Plaza, Zhongshan Expo Center, among others. As scheduled, about 1,000 base stations will be built by 2020, basically covering all major areas of the city.
Besides, a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation was signed by China Mobile Zhongshan Branch and 16 partners including Zhongshan Media Group, Zhongshan Municipal Government Affairs Data Administration Bureau, Zhongshan Commerce Bureau and Qtone Education, to build a communication and exchange platform that will promote the 5G industry development.
