The First Media Summit of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was successfully held in Guangzhou on May 19. This Summit was attended by 370 guests from all works of life and a total of 111 media organs.
The summit included a main theme forum and three parallel sessions. Attendees discussed on stronger promotion of communication and cooperation among media associations from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, around the issues including "Greater Bay Area Construction and Media Integration and Innovation", "Greater Bay Area Construction and Humanistic Spirits" and "Greater Bay Area Construction and the Belt and Road Initiative".
The First Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Media Summit Proposal was released, calling upon all GBA media outlets to strengthen cooperation in pursuit of connectivity and win-win progress. The Proposal also suggested that government agencies, media associations and all other sectors in the GBA should enhance communication, support the media in constructing a top-ranking area, and create a favorable environment for media integration.
After the Summit, the large-scale interview event "A Trip to the Greater Bay Area" started. Participating journalists branched out into three routes and would conduct interviews in the GBA cities.
The GBA ranks among other regions with the highest open-up level and greatest economic vitality, covers less than 1% of national territory, accounts for about 5% of the national population, and yields an economic aggregate of about 1 trillion yuan.
On February 18, 2019, the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council issued the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, marking a new age for the GBA construction.
In the future, the GBA will become a vibrant world-class city cluster, an international scientific and technological center with global presence, an important hub for the Belt and Road Initiative, a demonstration area of in-depth cooperation between mainland China and Hong Kong and Macao, and a superior life zone suitable for residence, work and travel.
