Employers are required to pay their employees high-temperature subsidies on a monthly basis for 5 consecutive months from next month on, according to the Zhongshan Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. The high-temperature subsidy makes a part of the labor remuneration (salary). Any employer who fails to pay the subsidies would be fined up to 10,000 yuan. Employers underpaying high-temperature subsidies will be considered as deducting and defaulting wages.
According to relevant regulations, high-temperature subsidies are given to workers exposed to workplace temperatures above 33 Celsius by employers on a monthly basis from June to October every year. The subsidizing standard in Guangdong is 150 yuan per person per month.
Employees have the rights to complain to the local human resources departments or call 12333 if they find their employers violating the regulations on high-temperature subsidy payment, according to Zhongshan Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. They can also report such behaviors to the local healthcare supervision authorities.
