Zhao Hong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Zhongshan Torch Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone and Director of the Management Committee, Liu Longzhan, Member of the Party Working Committee, and Zhong Ping, Deputy Director of the Management Committee, were invited to the live broadcast room of "Friday on Air" on May 24. They gave their opinion on the primary and secondary schools enrollment quota, which is a topic of concern for its citizens.
More immigrants have settled down in Torch Zone in recent years. Consequently, the number of primary and secondary school students has also risen year by year, resulting in the insufficient enrollment quota of public schools.
It is estimated that Torch Zone will increase the primary and secondary schools enrollment quota by 1,000 and 550 respectively this year.
Zhao Hong said that Torch Zone has taken "solving the insufficient enrollment quota problem" as one of its Top 10 Livelihood Projects. Measures for new constructions and expansion of schools are adopted to gradually solve this problem.
Among the new schools, Bokai Primary School has gone operational this February. The 8th Primary School of Torch Zone is being furnished, and is scheduled to open this September, with a total of 24 classes and 960 enrollment quotas to be available.
About 130 million yuan has been invested for the expansion of the Torch Zone No. 1 Middle School, which is in piling stage and scheduled to go operational early 2021. The project consists in a new comprehensive building, a student dormitory building, a comprehensive gymnasium and other facilities, with a large floor area of about 30,000 square meters.
Moreover, Torch Zone will add new classes to address the issue of admitting new students. For example, Zhongxin Primary School plans to add 8 classes for Grade 1 in 2019 (6 graduate classes).
