June 3 marked the 180th anniversary of the "Destruction of Opium at Humen" event. Zhongshan Public Security Bureau (ZPSB) on that day held a press conference on drug enforcement and announced the anti-drug work in Zhongshan City. 

In 2018, a total of 772 drug-related criminal cases were solved across the city, with 68.7kg of various drugs seized, according to ZPSB.

In 2018, Zhongshan partnered up with Peking University's College of Urban and Environmental Sciences to further employ the sewage drug-testing technology. In January 2018, the United Drug Laboratory was established in Zhongshan to carry out sewage drug testing across the city.

In 2018, Zhongshan ranked 4th in the effectiveness evaluation of the provincial anti-drug campaign. Survey showed that "Drug Control" had become the most acceptable and recognized livelihood project for Zhongshan citizens. 

Over two years of universal anti-drug campaign, Zhongshan has seen a stable and improving drug control situation. In the first quarter of 2019, the city's drug-related criminal cases decreased by 60.5% on a year-on-year basis. 

The Thunder, a new drama series featuring crackdown on drugs is recently popular among citizens. After the press conference, ZPSB also invited Tang Xu, who acted Cai Yongqiang "the chief of anti-drug brigade" in The Thunder, to join the theme interview "My Anti-drug Action". 

Tang called on the public to take part in the anti-drug campaign together and stay away from drugs. He also encouraged the drug convalescents to keep strong conviction about drug rehabilitation so that they would be able to return to society. (from Zhongshan Daily and Guangzhou Daily)
