The 2019 Food Safety Conference was organized by the Zhongshan Municipal Government on June 4. The meeting was held to review and summarize food safety work for 2018 and to discuss and launch food safety missions for 2019.
After the meeting, the Zhongshan Food Safety Office officially released the Zhongshan White Paper on Food Safety 2018. This is the fourth consecutive year since 2015 that Zhongshan has issued a white paper on food safety to the public.
The new white paper contains more than 20,000 words found in 6 chapters. They are an overview of food safety, food safety conditions, edible agricultural products safety, food-related products safety, import and export food safety, and food safety conditions during storage. Lastly, there are also three annexes regarding major events, food safety rumors and expert interpretations.
According to the white paper, safety supervision and random inspections on 20,535 classifications of different types food were completed in Zhongshan in 2018. They resulted in a total qualified rate of 98.1%. Additionally, a total of 20,133 catering entities in Zhongshan implemented the "Transparent Kitchen" program with a coverage of 80.4% and an increase of 10,923 compared with 2017.
In conclusion, there were no major food safety accidents in Zhongshan in 2018. The public satisfaction with food safety scored 86.6, and this was 8.6 points higher than that of 2017.
