The Ministry of Ecology and Environment published nationwide air quality status reports for May and for the first 5 months of 2019 on June 18. These reports showed the air quality rankings among 168 key cities. Zhongshan ranked 12th in the first five months, and 6th in May.
Zhongshan Ecological Environment Bureau specified that in the first half of 2019 (as of June 10), the air quality of Zhongshan reached the defined standards for 153 days with a qualified rate of 95.6%. This indicates a 2.4 percent increase over the same period last year.
During the first half of 2019, Zhongshan ranked 4th in the Pearl River Delta and 13th in Guangdong in terms of air quality.
The average concentration of PM10, PM2.5, and NO2 were 39, 27, and 30 micrograms per cubic meter, respectively. This is a trend downwards of 11.4%, 10.0%, and 3.2% from the numbers seen last year.
In addition, the daily maximum 8-hour average ozone concentration (90th percentile) was 112 micrograms per cubic meter. This figure shows a drop of 13.2% from the same period last year.
The city's Atmospheric Environment Comprehensive Index was 3.23, down 7.2% from the same period last year.
According to statistics, by June 18, a total of 16 companies have completed clean energy transformation or adopted central heating. Furthermore, a total of 542 out of 634 biomass fuel boilers completed fuel alteration, or were cancelled or suspended.
