QR code as a payment method for bus ride has been piloted since July 10, 2018. Passengers can easily complete the payment for their rides by scanning the QR code with the "Zhongshan Tong" electronic bus pass in Alipay, one of the most popular mobile payment tools.

According to the Zhongshan Public Transportation Group, Zhongshan is currently serviced by approximately 2,600 buses on 204 routes. For the convenience of passengers, all buses are covered by the QR code payment system. As of Tuesday, about 1.6 million people had received their e-bus passes.

Latest data shows that about 56% of passengers use Alipay to complete the payment for their rides. From June 1 to 23 this year, a total of 4,380,774 people completed ride payments with Alipay. This figure represents a daily average of more than 190,000 people.

In addition, the WeChat QR code payment is expected to be available for public transport in the third quarter of 2019. By then, passengers will have another payment method for their rides. (from Southern Metropolis Daily)
