Qiwan Avenue is planned to undergo a rapid transformation. The Zhongshan Housing and Urban-rural Development Bureau is presently in the process of bidding for the feasibility study report preparation on speeding-up the Qiwan Avenue transformation project. 

Located in East District, Qiwan Avenue is an important North-South expressway in Zhongshan. The route starts from Sanjiao Expressway-North Outer Ring Road Flyover, connects with Shiji Avenue, Kanghua Road, Sunwen Road, Zhongshan Road, Bo'ai Road and Xingwen Road after crossing Shiqi River, passes Jinzishan Tunnel, and connects with Tanzhou Expressway at the end, with a total length of about 8.8 kilometers.

The total investment for this project stands at about 5.297 billion yuan. The important parts of this project include 6 tunnels, a bridge and a rebuilt flyover.

Designed speed of the 2-way 8-lanes Qiwan Avenue will increased to 60 km/h after renovation.
