Beginning January 1, 2019, both the urban and rural integrated pension insurance and pensions for retirees of public institutions were adjusted. A total of 340,000 retirees from companies and public institutions in Zhongshan will benefit from the adjustment.

According to a Zhongshan Human Resources and Social Security Bureau staff representative, the pension adjustment is based on a combination of quota adjustment, linkage adjustment, and the appropriate policy support. The quota adjustment comes at an increase of 60 yuan per person per month. Enterprises and public institutions will implement the same standards.

The linkage adjustment covers two aspects. First, the basic pension before the adjustment is linked with the accumulated payment period. The basic pension monthly standard is set to be increased by 2.2% per person. Second, the adjustment is linked with the payment period (including the deemed year of payment), a monthly increase of 1 yuan will be adopted per year. On this basis, the payment, after 15 years, will see another monthly increase of 1 yuan each year. If the increased amount linked to the payment period of the person is less than 15 yuan, then the increased shall be 15 yuan.

In addition, there are also preferential adjustments for senior retirees. These benefits will be adjusted in six grades according to age. The increased seniors' pensions will be issued in a lump sum for each retiree, but not included in the adjustment base of basic pensions.

- Those who are 70 to 74 years old will be paid an additional 50 yuan per month per person, for a total of 600 yuan each year. 

- Those who are 75 to 79 years old will be paid an additional 100 yuan per month per person, for a total of 1,200 yuan each year.

- Those who are 80 to 84 years old will be paid an additional 150 yuan per month per person, for a total of 1,800 yuan each year.

- Those who are 85 to 99 years old will be paid an additional 200 yuan per month per person, for a total of 2,400 yuan each year.

- Those who are 90 to 99 years old will be paid an additional 300 yuan per month per person, for a total of 3,600 yuan each year.

- Senior retirees over the age of 100 will be paid an additional 500 yuan per month per person, for a total of 6,000 yuan each year.
