The 11th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of the People's Republic of China is scheduled to be held in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, from September 8 to 16. Twelve players of Zhongshan Shuttlecock Sports Team will represent Guangdong Province at the shuttlecock competition event.
During the ethnic minority games, Zhongshan shuttlecock athletes will participate in the men's trio, women's trio and duet events. Most of the contestants come from the Man, Hui and She nationalities. The oldest athlete is 46 while the youngest is only 16.
The team presently undergoes professional and systematic training at the China Shuttlecock Training Center in Xiaolan Town to deliver an outstanding performance the ethnic minority games.
Xiaolan is known as "the home of shuttlecock" in China. Shuttlecock is popular in all primary and secondary schools across the town as a "compulsory" PE course. Over the years, Zhongshan has produced many world champions of shuttlecock.
The National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities is held every four years. There will be 17 competition events and more than 150 exhibition events at the Games, including pearl ball, woodball, shuttlecock, ethnic style wrestling and minority martial arts.
