The 31st International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI2019) ended in Baku, Azerbaijan on August 11. Four players from Chinese team won 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal.

Among them, Gao Jiaxuan, a student from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Secondary School in Zhongshan, won a gold medal, ranking 20th in the world. Gao started learning informatics in fourth grade in primary school. He was recommended for admission into Tsinghua University while in second grade in senior high school.

Based on statistics, Guangdong has won 6 medals in IOI history, including 3 gold medals and 3 silver medals. All 3 gold medals were claimed by Zhongshan students, including 2 from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Secondary School and 1 from No.1 Middle School of Zhongshan.
