In order to develop a better communication between over 3,000 overseas fellows and villagers, Xiaze Village that is located in the central area of Shaxi Town, Zhongshan City started to publish its own overseas Chinese journal, dubbed Xiaze Overseas Chinese Journal, from 1985.

At present, there are 8 overseas Chinese journals in Zhongshan. Xiaze Overseas Chinese Journal is the only village-level one.

In its early years, Xiaze Overseas Chinese Journal was published in a long interval. The first issue was published in 1985 and the fourth in 2002. The first four issues were published over a time span of 17 years.

Since 2002, Xiaze Overseas Chinese Journal is back on the right track. It was published annually in the beginning, and now is published semiannually in June and December each year.

The publication of the Journal costs a lot. As Xiaze Overseas Chinese Journal is free of charge, the village committee subsidized the publication at the beginning. Later, the Journal is distributed all over the world, and Xiaze villagers also donate money for its publication.

In each issue of the Journal, there is a separate "Acknowledgements" page showing domestic and overseas donors' names and their contributions. The donation can be as much as twenty or thirty thousand yuan.

Xiaze Overseas Chinese Journal is rich in content, mainly divided into several categories: hometown news, information about the overseas Chinese who returned to the village to visit their relatives, the recent situation of overseas fellows, and the memoirs written by the villagers.

At present, there are 14 columns in the Journal. All of the articles are collected by the editors through various channels.

In December 2017, some editors launched an official WeChat account, dubbed "Xiaze Federation of Overseas Chinese of Shaxi, Zhongshan". It now has hundreds of followers, most of which are the overseas fellows of Xiaze Village.
