The Guangdong Engineering and Technology Research Center of Genetic Testing - Zhongshan Third People's Hospital Joint Laboratory of Mental Disease Genetics, jointly established by the Zhongshan Third People's Hospital and the Teaching and Research Office of Medical Genetics of Southern Medical University, was recently inaugurated in Zhongshan.

Future Joint Laboratory research will focus on the susceptibility gene screening of mental diseases, the interaction between heredity and environment in the pathogenesis of mental diseases, and the role of hereditary factors in the clinical treatment of mental diseases.

Since 2011, the research teams of the Teaching and Research Office of Medical Genetics of Southern Medical University and the Zhongshan Third People's Hospital have initiated clinical genetics cooperation research in mental diseases. Up to now, both sides have jointly published 4 SCI papers, and they have jointly applied for and won two grants from Natural Science Foundation of China and one from Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province.
