Zhongshan's food prices rose 3.7% in August, while its consumer price index (CPI) increased 0.8% month-on-month and 3.1% year-on-year, according to the data released by the Zhongshan Investigation Team of the National Bureau of Statistics.

The rise of pork price is the biggest contributor to the continuing increase in food prices. Compared with the previous month, the price of pork rose by 22.9%, and the prices of meat by-products such as pig liver rose by 21.5%.

Higher pork price led to the price growth of chicken and egg: 3.8% for chicken and 4.5% for egg.

Vegetable price rose steadily. Typhoons frequently occurred in August, affecting the production and transportation of vegetables, resulting in a 0.6% rise of the vegetable prices.

In August, service prices in Zhongshan rose by 0.1%, i.e. travel agency fees rose by 2.7% and hotel prices rose by 3.2%. The increases in the number of movies released in summer and audience, as well as the reduction in fare concessions, leading to a 3.4% increase in ticket prices.

Recently, prices in the real estate rental market were adjusted, and prices for private housing rental fell 1.1%.

From January to August, Zhongshan's CPI increased by 2.1%.
