Vice Mayor Xu Xiaoli on October 10 morning led the relevant officials of the Zhongshan Health Bureau, Zhongshan Civil Affairs Bureau and other members of the municipal committee on aging to visit centenarians and the elderly in welfare homes, and extended them festival blessings.
As of now, Zhongshan registered population stands at 1.78 million, of which 280,600 are over 60 years old, accounting for 15.76%. There are 98 centenarians in Zhongshan, with the oldest been 107 years old.
On the morning of the day, Zhongshan leaders visited centenarians Wu Lanying and Lyu Runtian.
Wu Lanying, 107, returned to China from Indonesia in 1930 and settled in Zhongshan in 2015. Currently she lives with her younger son and daughter-in-law, grandson and granddaughter-in-law and grandchildren.
Lyu Runtian, 101, is a native of Xin'an Village in East District. The old man lives with his two daughters, grandsons and great-grandchildren.
City leaders later visited the elderly at the Zhongshan Guanghong Nursing Home, which currently accommodates more than 270 seniors.
