The Zhongshan Intermediate People's Court recently held a trial in open court on a public interest lawsuit filed by the Zhongshan Municipal People's Procuratorate against Mr Zeng for infringing upon the reputation rights of fire fighting martyrs of Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province.

This case is the first public interest litigation against infringement of martyrs' reputation rights in Guangdong Province since the implementation of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Heroes and Martyrs.

On October 30, the Zhongshan Intermediate People's Court pronounced the first-instance judgment: Within seven days after the verdict came into effect, Mr Zeng, who insulted the fire fighting heroes, is ordered to issue an apology on a state-level media to eliminate the influence and rehab heroes' reputation.
