Huang Dingzhong, a Hong Kong resident in West District, recently donated 5 million yuan to set up a charity to support local public welfare undertakings.
The 92-year-old was born in Houshan Community in West District. In the 1950s, he emigrated to Hong Kong to earn a living. Although he has been away from home for 70 years, Huang is always concerned about the development of his hometown, Houshan.
"My father Huang Jinshan was born poor, but he often supported the needy villagers with money and food", Huang Dingzhong said. In early 2019, he mobilized his family members and established the Huang Jinshan Charity.
The charity is co-founded by Huang Dingzhong, the sixth son of Huang Jinshan, and Huang Zhenye, son of Huang Jinshan's second son Huang Rongbin. Huang Dingzhong donated 5 million yuan to carry out charity activities every year for indigenous elderly inhabitants of Houshan who are over 60 years old. At the same time, this charity allocates 30,000 yuan each year to set up a scholarship fund, which is used to support outstanding students in Houshan who are admitted into key universities.
On the evening of October 19, the Huang Jinshan Charity Dinner was organized at the Rainbow Garden in Houshan. More than 1,200 elderly people over 60 were invited to celebrate the joyous day.
