The Zhongshan military recruitment work conference for 2020 was held on January 17. The meeting called on all departments to implement a "biannual military recruitment" policy reform, and established spring military recruitment work.

With a clear implementation plan, starting from 2020 military recruitment will be conducted twice a year. Presently, the national military recruitment website (www.gfbzb.gov.cn) has opened its channels for military service registration and recruitment.

Spring military recruitment starts in mid-February. Dispatch of new recruits starts from mid-March and ends at the end of March. New recruits will be approved to join the army on March 1. The recruitment will focus on former graduates of various colleges and universities, graduates of higher vocational colleges, and other social skilled personnel.

Autumn military recruitment starts in mid-August. Dispatch of new recruits starts in mid-September and ends at the end of September. New recruits will be approved to join the army on September 1. The recruitment will focus on graduating students, current students and freshmen from various colleges and universities.

The standards and procedures for military recruitment are roughly the same as previous years.

For 2020, Zhongshan's military recruitment task is 580 people for the whole year, with 200 from spring military recruitment and 380 from autumn military recruitment. It is planned 74% of new recruits shall be college students and 18% shall be college graduates.

In 2019, Zhongshan completed its annual military recruitment task, with 559 soldiers recruited across the city.
