The EIA report of the Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway (or "Nanzhong Expressway") has been recently accepted by the Department of Ecology and Environment of Guangdong Province.

Nanzhong Expressway includes the main route and the Wanqingsha branch route. It will pass through three Zhongshan townships, namely Gangkou Town, Minzhong Town and Torch Development Zone. It will set up five interchanges in the city.

The EIA report shows that Nanzhong Expressway is not only the connecting route for the Southern Nansha New District, but also the functional extension route of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, as well as a networking route for the Pearl River Delta Region. It links Nansha Port Expressway with the Jiangmen-Zhongshan Expressway and the Eastern Guangzhou-Zhuhai Expressway, connecting all the expressways between Nansha and Zhongshan into a network.

Upon the completion of Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway, a fast lane will be built in the western part of Nansha Free Trade Zone, connecting Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and western Guangdong cities, so as to facilitate the gathering and distribution of personnel and materials.

Relevant officials of Zhongshan Transportation Bureau revealed that the Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway project has been included in this year's new construction plan and the preliminary work is currently under preparation. According to the plan, Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway will receive a total investment of about 21 billion yuan and is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
