On March 4, the Department of Ecology and Environment of Guangdong Province released the January report on the province's air and water quality. In January this year, Zhongshan's air quality improved significantly, reaching 100% of the standard; the water quality ranked 14th province-wide.
In January, the proportion of good days (days which reached AQI standard) of the whole province was 97.7%, an increase of 5.2 percentage points from the same period in 2019.
According to the ranking of the comprehensive environmental air quality index, Shanwei, Zhanjiang and Shantou secured the top three places, while Qingyuan, Guangzhou and Dongguan ranked in the bottom three. The ambient air quality in Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Yangjiang and 20 other cities improved from last year.
Compared with last year, the air quality in Zhongshan city has improved significantly this year. In January, the air quality maintained 100% up-to-standard, ranking first in Guangdong province in improvement. The comprehensive air quality index dropped 38.8% from the same period in 2019, ranking second in Guangdong province in terms of improvement, second only to Zhuhai.
In terms of water environment quality, in January, the water quality of the (81) centralized drinking water sources in service in prefecture level and above cities was 100% up-to-standard. The water environmental quality of Zhongshan ranked 14th in Guangdong province.
