Around 3:30 pm on March 31, Ms Peng was discharged from medical observation. She took off her hospital gown, changed into new clothes and walked out of the isolation ward of the Zhongshan Second People's Hospital. Her husband, who had been waiting for a long time, embraced her in his arms, and gave her flowers.

Ms Peng was the first critical COVID-19 patient in Zhongshan and she is the first COVID-19 patient in Guangdong province who successfully got rid of the ECMO life support machine. In the 60 days from February 1 to now, provincial and municipal medical experts and nursing teams have done their best to give her "a second life".

"Great thanks to everyone who has cared about me and thank you for giving me a second life. I will try to live a better life and try my best to give back to the society." Ms Peng said gratefully.

Her husband Mr Zheng presented the medical staff at the scene with pennants and a handwritten thank-you letter. Later, Ms Peng and her family left the hospital by car and returned to normal life.

Seeing her finally reunite with her family, the medical staff were also very excited. "I hope she can feel more of the happiness of the world in the future." Said Sun Funing, a member of the Zhongshan COVID-19 intensive care team.
