After 14 days of centralized quarantine at designated hotel in East District, Huang Xiaoming (pseudonym), as a student studying abroad returning to Zhongshan from Britain, on April 7 left a letter to all the staff of the centralized quarantine site before returning home.
At the beginning of the letter, it reads "First of all, I would like to express my great gratitude for you here. Two weeks ago, as an overseas student in Britain with a nervous mood, I embarked on an unknown journey back home. It was not until I met you that I finally let go of my worries and started my 14-day quarantine with peace of mind."
Huang Xiaoming, 22, is a junior at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. At the beginning, he had no plan to return to China, but as the epidemic spread in Britain and the university was closed, he began to consider returning to China.
After landing at Baiyun Airport after 6 pm Beijing time on March 24, Huang Xiaoming took the bus back to Zhongshan after undergoing various procedures such as filling in forms, temperature measurement, and local registration.
He said that on the way back to China, he saw many domestic workers fighting on the frontline regardless of the risk of infection, bearing great pressure. In the letter he wrote, "Because of your selfless efforts and risk tolerance, you have silently built a protection wall for us and contributed to the epidemic prevention work of society and the motherland. Thank you for fighting in the frontline during the rampant epidemic situation. Thanks for your hard work and I wish you good health."
Li Caiyu, a nurse from the Community Health Service Center of East District, stayed in the quarantine hotel for two weeks. "The hotel accommodates mostly returned overseas students. Many of them are in their early 20s. They are very polite and supportive to our work."
Li Caiyu said that when the quarantine period ends, many parents will come to pick up their children. She was so happy to see them reunite.
There are 2 quarantine hotels in East District. The end of March was the busiest period and at that time the 97 rooms in the two hotels were fully occupied.
