It is learned from Zhongshan Bureau of Housing and Urban-rural Development that the schedule for the transformation plan of Qiwan Avenue into an express way has been basically finalized.

In the transformation plan, a total of 4 tunnels, 1 bridge and 7 interchange facilities for pedestrians to cross streets will be built and 1 interchange will be upgraded. After renovation, Qiwan Avenue will reach the Sanjiao Express Way in the north and Tanzhou Express Way in the south, becoming an important north-south express transportation channel in the downtown area of Zhongshan city.

For the reconstruction of road intersections of Qiwan Avenue, major sections will be constructed with 6 main lanes and 4 auxiliary lanes. After the transformation, the designed speed limit of the road will be 60km/h and is expected to reach 80km/h at a specified future date. When completed, it will take less than 10 minutes to drive through the main urban area from Jinzishan Tunnel to the Sanjiao Express Way.

At present, Zhongshan Bureau of Housing and Urban-rural Development is preparing a detailed plan and preliminary design. Within 2020, road sections with ideal conditions will be selected to start initial transformation.
