Significant progress was made on June 17 on a core part of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge project. After about 34 hours of undocking, transportation, mooring and installation, the first tube of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge immersed tunnel project was successfully connected with the buried section of the West Artificial Island, completing the "first kiss under the sea".
Formed by 32 connecting tubes, the immersed tunnel of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is about 6.8 kilometers long. It is the longest and widest steel sea shell concrete underwater tunnel in the world.
The E1 tube submerged this time was 123.8 meters long, 46 meters wide and 10.6 meters high, weighed about 60,000 tons, with a water displacement equal to a medium-sized aircraft carrier.
