The Guangdong Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway construction project undertaken by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group was officially started on June 28. The project is planned to be completed in 2024, simultaneously with the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, thus achieving seamless connection between the locations.

On the same day, the commencement ceremony of the initial section of Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway was held in Shisiyong, Nansha District's Wanqingsha Town.

The initial section begins in Nansha District and ends in Zhongshan's Minzhong Town, with a total length of 4.21 kilometers. It is designed as a two-way six-lane expressway with a designed speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour.

The 32.4-kilometer Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway will cost over 20 billion yuan. It includes the main line and the Wanqingsha branch line. The expressway will improve the traffic within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area upon its completion.
