August 26 was the 40th anniversary of China's first batch of special economic zones including Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Shantou.

In the evening, Zhongshan's landmarks lit up to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the special economic zones. Outdoor screens and projections broadcast PSAs and slogans such as "Building up the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to Create a World-class Bay Area and a World-Class Urban Network".

The economic zones were born and prospered during the reform and opening up period. Over the past 40 years, the three zones have achieved fruitful results and gained rich experience in the journey of socialist modernization.

Today, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is rapidly developing, and the construction of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is speeding up. As an important node city in the Greater Bay Area, Zhongshan will take the strategic opportunities brought by the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Shenzhen demonstration pilot zone for socialism with Chinese characteristics to develop into a bay area hub and a high-quality city.
