Around 8 o'clock every morning, there are always voluntary blood donors walking into the central blood bank in Zhongshan and walking around on the second floor. They fill in forms, have a physical examination and preliminary blood screening, and then donate platelets. More than 20 people come to donate blood in half a day.

In Zhongshan, more than 200 people are needed to donate blood every day to meet the medical treatment demands of the whole city. Among these blood donors, some have persisted in donating for more than 10 or even 20 years.

With so many blood donors, Zhongshan has been conferred the title of National Advanced City for Voluntary Blood Donation 10 consecutive times. From October 1998 to early this September, about 826,882 people have donated blood in Zhongshan, with a total blood donation of 223 tons.
