Data released by the Zhongshan Investigation Team of the National Bureau of Statistics show that in August, Zhongshan's CPI (consumer price index) increased by 1.2% year-on-year, a 0.6 percentage point less from a year earlier, and increased by 0.3% from July. Prices of food, alcohol and tobacco increased by 1.2% month-on-month. Specifically, the prices of eggs increased by 5.5% due to a decreased supply. The prices of fresh vegetables increased by 4.6% due to the typhoon. The prices of livestock meat increased by 3.4%. The prices of fresh fruit decreased by 3.4%. The prices of aquatic products decreased by 0.3%.
Among the prices of the other 7 categories of products, 4 increased and 3 decreased month-on-month. The tourism industry recovered in August, driving the prices in education, culture and entertainment to increase by 0.6%.
