The "Character Portrait of Urban Chinese Netizens -- 'Zhongshan Index' Report for 2019-2020" was released in Guangzhou on September 27.
The report sampled 108 cities across China and selected social media data of Chinese urban netizens from June 2019 to June 2020 for analysis. It analyzed urban netizens' characteristics of expression and mindsets through hot topic attention, emotional characteristics, cognitive characteristics and urban influence, so as to outline the general picture of their personalities.
The research report pointed out that netizens from Guangdong are willing to express their emotions, and nearly half of the top ten cities in emotional processing index are in Guangdong Province.
Netizens from Zhongshan are calm and cautious on the Internet. Compared with the report result in 2018, the emotional processing index of netizens from Zhongshan rises to medium level, and netizens' overall emotional expression has become more active. The positive emotional index is slightly higher than the negative emotional index, and netizens are full of confidence about future.
"Netizens from Zhongshan will analyze and solve problems in a more rational way when they encounter some difficulties or negative incidents," said He Lingnan, deputy director of Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory for Big Data Analysis and Simulation on Public Opinions.
