The construction of the main pier of Xiangshan Bridge started on November 8, which marked the start of the first-stage construction of the Eastern Outer Ring Highway project.

Xiangshan Bridge with a main span of 880 meters is currently the widest cable-stayed bridge in China. It is also the one in Guangdong with the longest span.

The cable tower of Xiangshan Bridge is designed in a herringbone shape with a height of 270 meters, as high as a 90-story building. The height of the bridge deck is about 14.5 meters.

Xiangshan Bridge is a double-deck steel truss cable-stayed bridge. The upper section is part of the Eastern Outer Ring Highway, which has 8 lanes including both directions, and the lower section belongs to Mingu Highway, which has 6 lanes including both directions. Sightseeing walkways are set up on both sides of the bridge, where people can enjoy breathtaking views.

The first-stage construction of the Eastern Outer Ring Highway starts from Huangpu Town, connecting with the Guangzhou-Zhongshan-Jiangmen Expressway, and ends in Nanlang Town, connecting with the Zhongshan-Kaiping Expressway. Its length totals 35.363 kilometers. There are 4 pivotal interchanges (Dayan, Gaoping, Baojia, and West Hengmen) and 4 service interchanges (Huangpu Port, North Sanjiao, Minzhong, and East Minzhong) along the whole road, with a total investment of 22.93 billion yuan.

According to the plan, the Eastern Outer Ring Highway will be completed in 2024 and will be open to traffic simultaneously with the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge.
