The Jingguan Road-South Outer Ring Overpass Bridge is planned to be removed in mid-March, and an east-west tunnel, the Zhongkai Expressway-Jinguan Road Tunnel, will be built as Zhongshan's longest and widest tunnel. After the project is completed, the overpass bridge will be rebuilt on its former location.

The Zhongkai Expressway-Jinguan Road Tunnel starts from the north side of Lufeng Garden Community, which is currently under construction, and ends at the east side of the intersection of Changyi Road and the South Outer Ring, with a total length of 2.95 kilometers.

At present, Zhongshan's longest tunnel is the Sunzhong Tunnel situated on Changjiang Road, which is about 1.26 kilometers long.

The South Outer Ring Underground Tunnel of the Jinzi Mountain Interchange Project currently under construction is designed with a width of 40 meters and has eight lanes in two directions. Upon completion, it will be Zhongshan's widest tunnel. The Zhongkai Expressway-Jinguan Road Tunnel will also be 40 meters wide, with eight lanes (including main lanes and emergency lanes) going either direction. Upon completion, it will become the longest and widest underground tunnel in Zhongshan.
